Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Pay with Friends (the "Service") at paywithfriends.org. By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

What the Service is

Pay with Friends is a tool for recording shared expenses among a group and calculating who owes whom. It is a tracker, not a payment processor: it does not hold, transfer, or move money, and it is not a bank, money-services business, or financial advisor. Any actual payments between people happen outside the Service.

No warranty on calculations

We work hard to compute balances and settlements correctly, but the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. You are responsible for verifying any balances and settlements before acting on them. Do not rely on the Service as your sole record for amounts that matter to you.

Your account

You sign in with Google. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your Google account secure.

Trip links and access

Trips are accessed through an unguessable link. Anyone you share a trip link with can, after signing in, view and contribute to that trip. Treat trip links like passwords — share them only with people you intend to give access. You are responsible for who you share links with.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to harm others;
• attempt to access data, trips, or accounts that are not yours, or to probe, scan, or disrupt the Service;
• upload content that is illegal, or that infringes or violates another person's rights;
• abuse automated interfaces (including the MCP endpoint) or place an unreasonable load on the Service.

Connecting AI clients (MCP)

You may optionally connect an AI assistant to your trips via our MCP endpoint. Doing so shares the trip data that client accesses with the relevant AI provider under that provider's terms. You are responsible for the clients you connect and for revoking access when appropriate.

Donations

The Service may display an optional "Support us" donation widget powered by Ko-fi. Donations are voluntary, are processed by Ko-fi and its payment partners, do not purchase any goods, features, or services, and are non-refundable.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pay with Friends and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from amounts miscalculated or misrecorded, disputes between users, or unavailability of the Service. The Service is provided free of charge and our total liability to you is limited accordingly.

Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if these Terms are violated or if we discontinue the Service.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's principal place of residence, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and any disputes will be handled by the courts with jurisdiction there.
